Ards supporters were represented on Sunday past at the annual Irish League supporters 5-a-side tournament.
The sports centre at Jordanstown University played host to the popular competition, which attracted entry from 12 teams. The brave Ards five (no subs) competed in five games in just over two and a half hours and managed to record just a single win over Bangor.
A lack of previous practice, or indeed general fitness, may be pointed to as the reason for the poor start to the day as back-to-back 4-1 defeats were suffered against Larne and Cliftonville.
Fortunes seemed to be improving for the next game against Larne, but after leading for a large portion of the ten minutes a late collapse saw Larne run out 3-1 winners. Not all was lost however as the following match was against Bangor and the team recorded a fantastic 2-1 win over our close friends and neighbours.
Alas the final display did not match up to that herculean effort and Ards were defeated 6-1 in our final game against Donegal Celtic. Ballymena, from group B, went on to beat DC in the final.
