2008/09 Club Awards

Club captain Andy McDonald received the assent of supporters on Saturday night as they voted him Player of the Year.

The charismatic goalkeeper topped the voting by members of the Premier Ards Supporters' Club to win the night's main award and then made it a double by also being awarded the Red & Blue Supporters trophy.

Full-back David Cully was commended for his progress at the end of his second season with the club, when he was named Young Player of the Year. Darren Fitzgerald was also among the award winners as his 23 strikes this term won him the Top Goal-scorer prize - for the second time in his Ards career.

The award most sought after by the players is the one voted for by the team itself. The Players' Player of the Year award went to the longest serving member of the squad Kris Pike, accepted in his absence by manager Tommy Kincaid.

Another award that always generates much interest was that for Goal of the Season. Voted for by fans on the website forum, this prize went to Paul Dickson for his finish after an excellent move against Banbridge in March.

The Ards board of directors also nominated their top player and they chose midfielder Jim McIlhagga.

Finally, chairman Brian Adams explained that the annual Club-Person trophy had this year been awarded to a group. Felt by many to be the most positive initiative at the club for some time, the directors happily presented the James Boal Trophy to the members of the Bring Ards FC Home campaign.
