2002/03
Player of the Year Awards
The
annual Ards Player of the Year awards threw up no real surprises
on Saturday as Scottish goalkeeper Stephen Robertson, who has
been in outstanding form throughout his first season with the
club, walked away with the main awards.
The 26 year-old
became the first goalkeeper since Alan Fettis in 1991 to win the
player of the year award and in fact received two prizes from
the fans last night as he picked up trophies from the Ards '97
Supporters' and the Red and Blue Supporters' clubs.

The awards evening in
the Ards Sports Club followed a player's meal on Saturday evening
and were hosted by the Ards '97 Supporters' Club and sponsored by
Agnews Auto-exchange of Ladas Drive, Belfast. Almost a full
turnout of playing and backroom staff also saw Darren Nixon receive
the Young Player of the Year award for the second successive season
and keeper Robertson win the Players' Player of the Year gong.

trophy as well as a gift from captain John Bailie, on behalf of the
playing staff. In the main award from the Ards 97 Club, which is
chosen over the course of the season by the supporters themselves,
the surprisingly close contest was won by Robertson with defender
Alastair McCombe in second place.
