2005/06 Club Awards

A host of players and supporters were recognised as contributors to Ards Football Club at the annual club awards on Saturday night.

The big winners of the evening were Marty Hunter and John Bailie who each received Player of the Year awards, while Ryan Tumelty was the unanimous choice as Young Player of the Year.

Awards were presented to the playing staff from the Board of Directors and from the Premier Ards and Red and Blue Supporters' Clubs. Presentations were also made to a number of supporters in recognition of the service they give the club week in, week out.

Player of the Year for the Under 18 Colts side was Ben McGrath and he was well supported by a number of team mates at the awards. An award for Most Improved Player went to April's Player of the Month Jay Magee, while Jason Hill was the expected recipient of the Top Goalscorer Trophy.

Votes cast by members of the Premier Ards Supporters' Club saw Marty Hunter named as their Player of the Year for the second season running, while Ryan Tumelty walked away with the Young player trophy. He was also on the stage to pick up the ardsfc.co.uk Goal of the Season prize for his December strike against Newry.

The Ards board gave their top award to captain John Bailie at the end of his seventh season with the club, while also awarding Ryan Tumelty with the Young Player trophy. The Red & Blue Supporters' Club gave their annual award to Marty Hunter, while the prize the players most want to claim, the Players' Player of the Year was won by Jason Hill.

The coveted Club Person of the Year award was won by retiring Safety Officer George Young, who has served ten years in the post and has been a prominent organiser of supporters' activities for even longer. Unfortunately George was unable to be present and his trophy was accepted on his behalf by Billy Alexander. Five other presentations were made to a small of club helpers, who were paid tribute to by Chairman Brian Adams.
