Youth League: Ards Colts 1-0 Ballymena United Thirds
17th November 2007
Three more points for the Colts on Saturday as a single goal from Tony Tumelty in the second half edged out Ballymena.
In wet conditions at Londonderry Park, neither side took a firm grip on the first half, although Ards tended to be the most creative. However just on the half-time whistle Ballymena almost snatched the lead when a goal-bound shot had to be kicked off the line.
Ards responded almost immediately after the restart when Tumelty grabbed his tenth goal of the season by getting his head to a corner kick. Ards proceeded to miss chance after chance for the remainder of the half with Thomas Gorman striking the post and Tumelty making several runs through the middle only to finish poorly.
Ards keeper Jason Mooney was rarely troubled in the second half as Ards stayed top with this win over their second-placed rivals, while fellow title-contenders Cliftonville lost to Ballymoney.
In the next game, Ards are away to Crusaders Colts on Saturday 24th November (2.30)
