Ards Colts booked their place in the 2nd round of the IFA Youth Cup with a one-nil victory over North Down Youth team Newington.

Manager Lee Forsythe had brought in several new faces for the game that saw the team take a break from league action. Newington displayed a very committed nature and certainly played their part in making a competitive cup tie.

The Ards goal came not long before half time when a Craig McConkey shot took a deflection off a Newington defender on its way into the net.

Newington missed their best chance to get back into the game when a seocnd half penalty awarded to them was superbly saved by Ards keeper Jason Mooney.

Ards return to league action next Saturday against Larne at Londonderry Park.
