WKD Intermediate Cup Final: Ards 0-1 Loughgall
1st May 2008

Ards players were denied victory at New Grosvenor on Thursday night as a 65th minute goal from Dean Smith won the WKD Intermediate Cup for Loughgall.

Ards' first appearance in a final under Tommy Kincaid ended in disappointment for the team and the large band of travelling supporters as Loughgall's single strike lit up a tepid final.

Ards enjoyed the run of play in the first half, while Loughgall failed to really threaten. The tables turned after the break however with the Villagers coming more and more out of their own half ahead of Smith's header beating Andy McDonald at his far post. Closest for Ards was James Wilson, whose back-heel from a Stirling pass was well saved by Marc Robinson.

The Ards players were applauded for their efforts at the end and again as they arrived back in Newtownards - the loyal red and blue supporters proud of their team's efforts.

Ards: Andy McDonald (capt.), Gary Clifford, Kris Pike, Darren Nixon, Gary Spence, James Wilson, Craig McMillen, Aaron McKee, Darren Stirling, Ricky Billing, Johnny Roy Subs Stephen Johnston, David Cully (for Clifford), Justin McBride (for Billing), Mark Parker, Gary Sharratt
