1969/70 Winners: Manchester City

  • A.S. Roma (Italy) were semi-finalists in this Cup Winners' Cup campaign

  • Due to civil unrest in Belfast, the kick-off was brought forward to 5pm causing a heavy loss in gate receipts for Ards

  • Only two sides were entered into the preliminary round of the competition; Ards along with thirty other clubs received a bye into the first round

  • In the second round Roma progressed past PSV Eindhoven on the toss of a coin, though they lost their semi-final to Gornik Zabrze on the same basis!
