  • Standard Liege (Belgium) reached round 3 of the UEFA Cup

  • Ards were the second Irish League side to compete in the UEFA Cup, following Glentoran in 1971/72 (there was no Northern Irish entry in 1972/73 due to civil unrest)

  • Ards were also the first side from Northern Ireland to win a UEFA Cup game

  • The Ards match programme for this game amazingly spells the name of the competition as 'EUFA'
