The 31 year-old forward has shot his way to the top of the league's goal-scoring charts this season, with an impressive 15 goals in only thirteen appearances, and his six strikes during October have earned him the Carling Player of the Month award.

Speaking after receiving his award, which is chosen by the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association, Fitzgerald was quick to praise his Ards team-mates.

"October was a good month for me in front of goal," he commented, "But I can't do anything without the rest of my team-mates and they share this award with me.

"As good as individual awards are, as a club we hope to get our own ground soon and get back to the party in the Carling Premiership."
