Youths Represented At Foyle Cup
25th July 2007

Ards Youth under 14s carry the flag for Ards FC at the annual University of Ulster Foyle Cup taking place this week in Londonderry and surrounding areas.

Coaches John Wallace and Peter Whitehead have taken an 18 strong squad of boys to participate in the international tournament, that runs from 24th-28th July.

The four-team group that Ards find themselves in includes Linfield, Maiden City Academy and the Qutar national team. The opening game on Tuesday morning saw the side go down 3-0 to a very strong Linfield team although it will be on Wednesday, when Ards play two matches that things will really be decided.

A morning victory over the Maiden City side by one goal to nil, lifted the side up into third place, with a tea-time match against group-leaders Qutar rounding off the day.

The six group winners qualify for the knock-out stages with a further two best runners-up joining them. Ards require a win over Qutar then to place themselves in the best possible position.

The team's progress can be followed at www.ardsyouth.co.uk or at www.foylecup.com
