Planning sought for new stadium
Londonderry Park

Ards Borough Council have lodged a planning application for their proposed redevelopment of Londonderry Park, incorporating an arena facility that could be utilised by Ards FC.

The local authority submitted their proposals to planners recently, with the plans  advertised in the local press this week. The proposal outlines a redevelopment of Londonderry Park, the main sports facility in the town, to included conversion of existing shale [hockey] pitches to synthetic pitches and provision of new floodlit pitches.

Also included, of most interest to Ards followers, is a plan for new prefabricated cricket and football pavilions and grandstand. Additional parking facilities complete the proposed redevelopment.

The application comes as a result of detailed planning by council officials and architects, acting on a proposal from Councillors in October 2009 that the scheme should proceed.
