Ards will be sending their best wishes to Germany later this month as Kyle McCleery heads off to play in the UEFA Regions Cup.

Midfielder Kyle has been selected as part of the squad to represent the Eastern Region (Northern Ireland) at the little-known amateur tournament.

Both Kyle and David Cully, who has been placed on stand-by for the squad, took part in a series of trial matches over the last few months as build up to the competition. McCleery will now travel with the squad of players, mainly representatives of the Championship and Interim League, to Germany in two weeks time.

The Northern Ireland side will play their first match against the team from Malta in Ratingen on Tuesday 17th March. Other matches will then follow against Kempen of Belgium and Niederrhein of Germany.

This is the sixth staging of the official UEFA tournament, which promotes the amateur game at local level.
