Fans Take Up Cliftonville Challenge
3rd January 2006

A team of loyal Ards followers were taking on the Cliftonville challenge a little earlier that most on Monday afternoon as they squared off against their terrace counterparts in a friendly 6-a-side game.

A clash of twelve enthusiastic fans, bedecked in replica club colours took place at the Valley Leisure Centre in Newtownabbey at lunchtime on Monday, fostering relations betweens fans of the two sides, which met for the second of two friendly games this season.

As was the case at Londonderry Park in September, the more experienced Cliftonville line-up emerged as clear winners by four to one, but that did not take away from the enjoyable hour's play for anyone in the Ards team. And of course the real result later that afternoon went someway to lifting spirits also!

For the record Ards' only scorer was Keith Gilmore, who seems to be making quite a habit of that, having been the only player to register a goal at the pre-season Irish League supporters' 5-a-side tournament. Thanks is extended to the Cliftonville supporters for their hospitality.
