Ards Youth show their skill at Dundela

On what began a misty and foggy day, Ards Youth Under 12 travelled to Dundela Football Club to play in a one-day tournament against three other clubs, Dundela Under 14s, BB select and Hawthorne Under 14s. In what proved to be a very enjoyable day, Ards Under 12s did themselves proud with fantastic performances and team play.

Ards’ first game was against Dundela. The Ards team did not let the size of the opposition put them off and from the first whistle they began to play the football. There was a definite flow to the Ards play with Scott Neville and Jordan West pulling the strings in midfield. The game ended 2-0 to Dundela but the Ards management were very proud in the manner their team played football and battled against a team older than themselves.

The spectators were now beginning to debate about this young team in blue and they Ards team deserved the praise and adoration they were receiving.

Ards second game was against the BB select and the crowd were witness to some fantastic football and flowing play from the Ards team. Goals from Kurtis Hanna, Steven Gordon and Luke Cummins gave Ards a clear 3-1 victory against the BB team. The Ards management were thoroughly enjoying watching their team play football in this manner.

In their final game of the league Ards had to play Hawthorne. This would prove to be a tough encounter but Ards needed to be beaten by more than 3 goals to be kept from the final. After going 1-0 down Ards battled back and equalised with an absolutely tremendous free kick from Jordan West. Hawthorne did manage to score a second goal and win 2-1 but it was not enough to keep the young Ards team out of the final with Dundela.

So the Under 12s were again to play against Dundela for the chance to become the victors. However, tiredness had well and truly set in to the young legs and Ards were beaten. The Ards management were so proud of every boy that took part in last Sunday's tournament. They would like to thank Dundela for organising this event and also especially thank the Ards parents for their loyal support to this team.
