Ards looked to extend their unbeaten run in the league to five with the visit of PSNI. David McAllister and Craig McMillen missed the game through injury.
Ards had the first chance of the game when Dylan Wilson’s pass found Caoimhin McConnell but his strike could only find the top netting.
The home side thought they’d opened the scoring after 15 minutes when captain Johnny Taylor’s header found the back of the net. However the goal was ruled out for a foul in the box.
Then, new PSNI keeper Dylan Stewart produced a fine save to deny Michael McLellan’s strong header on 27 mins
The away side had the last chance of the half when Tony Tumelty’s attempt was palmed away by Brian Neeson. The half ended 0-0.
In the forty seventh minute PSNI took the lead when their keeper Stewart’s long ball was able to find captain Tumelty in the box with his attempt finding the back of the net, 0-1.
In the 56th minute Ards arguably could have had a penalty when a PSNI defender handled the ball in the area. However the claim was waved off by the referee to the frustration of the Red and Blue Army.
Tumelty nearly got his second when his freekick was just off target in the seventieth minute. Then, Aaron Cochrane had his header denied by Neeson as PSNI looked to extend their lead.
The last chance of the game fell to Ards when Scott McMillan’s pass found busy substitute Salou Jallow but his strike was denied by the PSNI stopper and the game ended 0-1.
A disappointing result for Ards while the away side win their first game in 14 league games. Next up is Ballinamallard away next Saturday.
