Ards v Ballyclare Preview

Lough 41 Championship.

Ards vs Ballyclare Comrades.

Clandeboye Park.

Friday 26th August at 7.45 p.m.

Ards will be looking to get back on track after suffering an injury time defeat at the hands of Annagh last time out. To be truthful Annagh could have been well ahead at half time but for some good goalkeeping and some poor finishing, but Ards took an early lead in the second half and put in a decent second half show that maybe deserved a point. Ards now find themselves in eighth place with just three points from the opening day win at the Welders.

The Comrades have had an unbeaten start to the season, with two away wins against Dergview and Dundela and an opening day draw at home to Ballinamallard. They currently occupy third place in the table, two points behind pacesetters Loughgall and Annagh.

Ballyclare's squad includes a number of players with recent links to Ards, including Calvin McCurry who has already netted twice this season and Darius Roohi who got off the mark against Dundela. Conal McGrandles signed for the Dixon Park outfit after leaving Ards at the end of last season, while both Joe Tully and Gary Donnelly have rejoined Ballyclare having joined the Red and Blues in the transfer window last January. All bar Donnelly have been involved so far this season and assuming they are selected, all may feel they have a point to prove.

Matthew Tipton will almost certainly be without Paddy Cafolla for this game after Paddy was substituted in the first half against Annagh, at the time of writing it is uncertain whether Conall Young or Ethan Taggart will have recovered from their respective injuries sufficiently to be considered for selection. Whatever the starting line up fans will be looking for a positive display and outcome to this encounter against a Ballyclare side that have made an impressive start to the season.

A possible plus for Ards is that they had a good run of results against Ballyclare last season, winning all four encounters between the sides with a goal aggregate of 13 for and two against, hopefully that run can be extended on Friday night.
