County Antrim Senior Shield.

Ards vs Glentoran.

Clandeboye Park.

Tuesday 11th October at 7.45 p.m.

A break from league football for these two clubs as Ards host Premiership outfit Glentoran in a County Antrim Senior Shield quarter final tie. Coincidentally the last time the sides met competitively was in another County Antrim Shield quarter final game at the Oval almost exactly two years ago when a determined display by Ards saw them draw 0-0 before losing the tie 5-4 on penalty kicks. It was in fact the last competitive game Ards played in that 2020/2021 season which was cut short for Championship sides by the pandemic.

Ards recent form has improved, with the 4-1 victory at Knockbreda being their third consecutive league victory, but the Glens have made a very impressive start to the season and sit just one point behind table toppers Larne with a game in hand. Since drawing their first game of the season at Larne, the men from the Oval have won all six league games, scoring 16 and conceding just one. They also have beaten Championship sides Warrenpoint and Institute in knock-out games with an aggregate score of 13-0!

While cup success is important both financially and for morale, both teams will have an eye on their respective league position. Glentoran have an important match away to rivals Linfield on Friday night while Ards travel to the Brandywell to take on Institute on Saturday hoping to continue their recent progress. Will the managers be tempted to change winning sides with the upcoming league fixtures in mind? Matthew Tipton has fielded the same starting eleven in those last three wins and appears to have found a good combination with Scannell and Salley among the goals, while Mick McDermott's Glentoran have such strength in depth they could rest a few players and still field a side that would be competitive in the Championship.

The tie will be played to a finish but there is no provision for extra time, should the scores be level after 90 minutes it will go straight to penalties.

Ards will be noting the fact that Baby Loss Awareness Week is taking place from 10th to 16th of October by wearing warm up tops with the SANDS logo, SANDS of course is the club's chosen charity and it supports those affected by Stillbirth and Neonatal Deaths.

Season tickets are not valid for this fixture and admission is set at £12 and £8 for concessions.
