PLAYR-FIT Teamwear Championship.

Ards F.C vs Portadown.

Clandeboye Park.

Saturday September 30th at 3.00 p.m.

Two teams in good form with their eyes on a promotion challenge meet on Saturday as pre-season promotion favourites Portadown travel to take on Ards. Portadown started the season with two wins, then surprisingly lost three in a row before normal service was resumed and they have now won their last three games to find themselves on 15 points, in second place ahead of Dundela on goal difference and three points behind early season surprise package Newington who top the table with 18 points.

Ards started with two defeats and have worked hard to turn things round to the extent that they are now unbeaten in the last six league games, their most recent win coming last Saturday at Dundela. That unbeaten run comprises three wins and three draws and puts them in seventh place with twelve points.

Last week was probably the best team performance so far, delighting the travelling support, but the fit-again Eamon Scannell will surely be pushing for a starting place. Also hoping to be considered will be Salou Jallow who notched a hat trick for the reserves in the mid week mauling of Ballyclare Seconds. Max Miller and Dee Dee McAllister also played in that game and put in good performances. James McLaughlin misses out as he completes his three game suspension imposed for his red card against Ballyclare Comrades.

The Portadown side has an experienced look about it. Ex Ards keeper Aaron Hogg started the season in goals but following his injury Gareth Buchanan has stepped in and in front of him the ever present duo of Ross Redman and Dale Montgomery are ably assisted by the likes of Aaron Traynor and Chris Rodgers, all four of these in their early 30s with a wealth of Irish League experience. Leading scorers are Paul McElroy who has Premiership clubs like Crusaders and Ballymena on his cv and Ryan Mayse who has been with a number of clubs, most recently Dungannon Swifts, these two have eight between them so far and with Eamon Fyfe chipping in with a couple and the guile of Eoin Bradley available the Ards defence will need to be on top form. Another familiar face to Red and Blue fans will be midfielder Eoghan McCawl who spent some time with Ards before going to Portadown via Dundela.

Ards supporters will be hoping that the unbeaten run can be extended, meaning the team are undefeated in September and keep the momentum going into October which starts with the double trip to Ballinamallard next week, League Cup on Tuesday and League on Saturday.
