Ards vs Lisburn Distillery.

County Antrim Shield. 1st Round.

Bangor Fuels Arena.

Saturday October 10th at 3.00 p.m.

Ards much awaited return to competitive action comes on Saturday with a first round County Antrim Shield tie against Premier Intermediate side Lisburn Distillery. It has been over seven months since the Red and Blues last league game away to the Welders on March 7th, a game which John Bailie's side won 2-1. In fact that game was the last of a six game unbeaten run for Ards with five wins and a draw against eventual champions Portadown included in that sequence. Fans will be hoping to continue that winning streak now that competitive action has returned.

Like Ards the Whites, who were relegated from the Championship in 2016, have had a busy pre-season. Since March this year they have been managed by Johnny Clapham, who of course had experience at Ards as a player and a coach, as well as a successful stint as a player at Distillery in their Premiership days. In their nine friendly games so far the Whites have wins against Newry and the Welders to their credit, while their only defeats came against Comber Rec and a Crusaders XI.

John Bailie has retained most of last season's first team squad and has added to his panel with several new signings so it will be interesting to see his first competitive starting eleven. While there have been several niggling pre-season injuries, apart from long term absentees Jonah Heron and Dylan Wilson, he should have a full squad available with the obvious exception of fans favourite Dee Dee McAllister who may miss most of the season.

The winners of this tie are scheduled to play away to the winners of the Glentoran vs Bangor tie on Tuesday night. Saturday's game will obviously be played to a finish and if it is level after 90 minutes will go straight to penalty kicks, there will be no extra time. Unusually each club will be allowed to name seven substitutes, although only three can be used.

As this is a knock out game, season tickets aren't valid and admission will be £8, with concessions at £5. All fans are requested to use the home turnstiles as the side entrance will be closed.
