Match Preview: Cliftonville [a]

Updated: Jan 17, 2019

Cliftonville vs Ards.

Saturday 12th January at 3.00 p.m.

Ards travel to North Belfast to take on a Cliftonville side that have been struggling recently. They have lost their last six games, resulting in four league defeats and elimination from the County Antrim Shield and the Irish Cup. However a team with the firepower of Joe Gormley and Rory Donnelly is capable of winning any game and Ards don't often get points at Solitude.

Ards have a number of new players eligible for this game, Brendan Bennett made his debut in the hugely disappointing Irish Cup defeat last weekend and other recent signings in the shape of Daryl Evans from Rathfriland, Jonathan Smith on loan from Linfield, Darren Henderson from Institute and Eoghan McCawl from Glentoran are all vying for a place in the squad. Manager Colin Nixon will hope he finds the right combination to get a result and begin the climb up the table that all Ards fans are hoping for.

An interesting coincidence is that if Jonathan Smith plays he will more than likely come up against Levi Ives having previously been team mates with him at Torquay Under 18s.

Ards fans intending to take in this game are encouraged to use the PASC bus which will be leaving the Social Club/Gibson's Lane at 2.00 p.m.
