DERGVIEW 1 V 1 ARDS
Ards made the long trip to Darragh Park, Castlederg for a clash with Dergview, with Ruairi O’Hare making his competitive debut, whilst Cafolla returned to the bench having completed his suspension..
After just three minutes, Ards opened the scoring when a beautiful cross from Conall Young found Kym Nelson, with his header finding the top of the net to make it 0-1.
Seconds later a close-range strike from Igiheon nearly got the home side an equaliser but his shot was wide of the left-hand post.
Nineteen minutes in, Dergview’s Farren received a red card after a foul tackle and abuse of the referee as the good start for the away side continued.
After twenty five minutes the Constitutes’ keeper McDermott had to go off injured and was replaced by Buchanan. Arthurs then couldn’t stretch enough to connect with a Murray strike in the fortieth minute.
In the forty first minute the home side equalised when a McGinley free-kick was headed home by Diver with keeper Neeson making contact but not enough to keep it out of the net, 1-1.
On the half-time whistle Ards really should have taken the lead again when Jallow played the ball round the keeper but a block tackle from a Dergview defender meant that the Ards winger didn’t find the back of the net.
Arguably, the home side should have had a penalty in the fifty sixth minute when Ards captain McGovern brought down a Dergview player in the box.
Substitute Cafolla then had a good opportunity in the sixty first minute but his volley was over the bar from about 12 yards out.
McGrandles then picked up a yellow card before, in the eighty second minute, Cafolla’s cross hit the bar. There was then another penalty appeal, this time for the away side, who appealed for hand ball.
In the eighty sixth minute substitute McCurry’s volley was deflected and Sam Dinu’s resulting strike was wide. Ards continued to press until the end of the game, but failed to take advantage of the extra man for the majority of the match, with the game ending 1-1.
A frustrating away day for Ards considering Dergview went down to ten men so early on and had an injury to their original keeper. Next up is Dundela at home, when ex-manager Colin Nixon makes his return to Clandeboye Park.
