Dundela v Ards Match Preview

Samuel Gelston's Whiskey Irish Cup.

Dundela vs Ards.

Wilgar Park.

Saturday January 8th at 3.00 p.m.

Saturday sees a break from League action for the Red and Blues as the excitement of knock out competition returns with this Samuel Gelston's Whiskey Irish Cup tie. Although the draw gave Ards home advantage, as Bangor also were drawn at home and attempts to make alternative arrangements were unsuccessful, Ards return to Wilgar Park hoping to avenge that 2-0 defeat sustained in their last visit back in November. The Duns have shown better form since the arrival of ex Ards manager Niall Currie and now sit in 10th place in the League, a point above the relegation play-off place.

However as the old saying goes, League form goes out of the window in a one-off cup game so this one is hard to call. Having said that, for those that like to look at recent records, the defeat in November followed a sequence where Ards had the edge over Saturday's opposition, having won three and drawn one of the previous four games against the Duns.

Ards have already made some moves in the transfer window and midfielder Gary Donnelly and striker Joe Tully have both signed from Ballyclare Comrades. Both trained with the rest of the squad on Thursday night and are eligible for inclusion in Saturday's panel. Also eligible will be Calvin McCurry, his loan from Cliftonville was due to finish in January but it has now been extended to the end of the season with the agreement of both clubs and the player himself.

Those who definitely won't feature include Kym Nelson who is suspended, while Aaron Brown and Jamie Glover have left the club and joined Ards Rangers and Bangor respectively. Other players are nursing injuries or illness and manager John Bailie will be hoping that most of those on the doubtful list are passed fit enough to be considered for selection.

Admission to the game is confirmed at £8 with concessions at £5.

Match Officials - To Be Confirmed.

The PASC bus will leave the Social Club/Gibson's Lane area at 2.15 p.m.
