H&W Welders vs Ards. Match Preview

Harland and Wolff Welders vs Ards.

Bluefin Sport Championship.

Tillysburn Park.

Saturday 7th March at 3.00 p.m.

Ards travel to the Welders on Saturday for the first and possibly the only time this season. The Welders are currently in eighth place and are eight points behind sixth placed Dundela with only four games left until the split, so are likely to remain in the bottom half of the table while barring mathematical miracles Ards should remain in the top half.

Honours are even between the clubs this season, Ards winning 1-0 in the second game of the campaign, while the Welders got revenge with a 2-1 victory at the end of January, both those games were in Bangor.

Ards of course are unbeaten since the beginning of February with four wins and a draw to their credit and would actually be joint top of the table with Loughgall if only the league started on February 1st! This is in spite of a troubling injury list which now includes the impressive recent signing Salou Jallow who was stretchered off during last week's win against QUBFC. Ards fans will be hoping that Eamon McAllister, who is the Championship Player of the Month for February, can continue his excellent form into March and indeed for the rest of the season. Kym Nelson returns to the squad after suspension but it seems none of the injured players are likely to be fit to return so the bench may include some of the Under 20s squad that had a convincing 5-2 victory over Dundela Reserves on Wednesday night.

The Welders will be without regular goalscorer Matthew Ferguson who is in the middle of a three game suspension. Craig Harris who rejoined the Welders from Ards during the January transfer window, is also suspended after picking up his tenth yellow card of the season in the defeat at the hands of Ballinamallard on Wednesday night. Familiar faces in the home squad will include Ross Arthurs and Scott McMillan, the latter being another who rejoined the Welders in January having started the season at Ards.

The PASC bus will be leaving the Social Club/Gibson's Lane at 2.00 p.m. all fans are welcome.
