JIMMY MARTIN PASSES AWAY

Former Ballymena United and Linfield striker Jimmy Martin signed for Ards from Glentoran in November 1979. He scored a goal after three minutes in his first appearance for the club in an away fixture with Bangor on 10 November, 1979 - he added a second goal on 25 minutes as the North Down rivals fought out an exciting 3-3 draw.


He finished his first season as top goalscorer with a tally of ten. His final appearance was also in away game at Bangor, this time the Seasiders defeated Ards 4-1 on 7 November, 1981. He played a total of 66 games, scoring 19 goals for the Red & Blues.


After his playing days ended he would go on to become a coach at the club when Billy Humphries was manager in the early 1980s.
