Loughgall v Ards Preview

Lough 41 Championship.

Loughgall vs Ards.

Lakeview Park.

Saturday 23rd October at 3.00 p.m.

Ards travel to Loughgall on Saturday looking for their fifth consecutive league win against a side that are currently in sixth position, ten points behind the Red and Blues who sit proudly at the top of the league, although that might change as Newry take on Dergview on Friday night.

Ards have a decent record against Loughgall in recent times, including a 3-1 home win in the second game of the current campaign, a win achieved with ten men after the unlucky dismissal of Patrick Cafolla who was one of the goalscorers that evening. The Villagers have failed to win in their last four outings, which is surprising as under manager Dean Smith they were considered to be strong contenders at the start of the season, hoping to go one better than the third place achieved in 2019/20, which was the last completed season at Championship level. They are still dangerous opponents as they have the meanest defence in the division, with only ten goals conceded in their twelve games, while in attack they have Lorcan Forde, Nedas Maciulaitis and Nathaniel Ferris who on their day can cause problems for any defence.

John Bailie will have the luxury, or possibly the problem, of choosing a starting eleven from almost a full squad, as both Christopher Crane and Jamie McGovern return from suspension. Indeed the only player who is unavailable is Dee Dee McAllister who played part of a full scale training match on Tuesday night and will be pushing for a spot on the bench in the next game or two, which is good news for Ards fans.

The PASC will be running a bus to the game, leaving the Social Club/Gibson's Lane at 1.15 p.m.
