Newry City vs Ards.
Bluefin Sport Championship.
Saturday 12th October at 3.00 p.m.
The two teams relegated from the Premiership last season face each other on Saturday with both sides looking to hit a consistent run of form that will propel them up the table. Ards currently sit fifth in the table with 18 points, eight points behind leaders Portadown, while Newry are one place and three points behind the Red and Blues.
To be fair to Newry they have steadied the ship after only winning one of their first five league games, ironically a 3-0 result when they travelled to play Ards on match day three. They have won three of the last six and their only defeat in that period was at home to Dergview. Home form has been a problem for them though, with their only win at home in the league so far this season coming last time out against Ballyclare.
Newry are capable of scoring goals and while Mark McCabe and Mark Hughes might be the obvious dangermen, Ards may also have to watch out for John McGovern, a 16 year old who was called up to the N. Ireland Under 19 squad that played games against the Under 19 teams from both Liverpool and Swansea at Lilleshall this week. McGovern's call up was no doubt influenced by the fact that he has scored four in the last six games for his club.
Ards will be looking revenge for that early season defeat and while captain Johnny Taylor will miss the game as he completes his three match suspension, David McAllister may be fit enough to be included in the squad. Otherwise the panel will be along the same lines as that which beat QUBFC 3-2 last weekend.
As usual the PASC will be running a bus to this fixture, leaving the Social Club/Gibson's Lane at 1.15 p.m. All fans are welcome.
