Match Day 25. Ards vs PSNI.

Updated: Jan 17, 2020

Ards vs PSNI.

Bluefin Sport Championship.

Bangor Fuels Arena.

Friday 17th January at 7.45 p.m.

A rare Friday night fixture for Ards and a chance to extend the unbeaten run in the League to five games against a struggling PSNI side.

Currently in tenth place with 17 points, PSNI are only one point clear of the bottom two teams, both locked on 16 points. The PSNI story so far has been inconsistent, losing their first three games, including a 4 - 0 opening day defeat to Ards at the Dub, then going on a five game unbeaten run, followed by a run of 14 games with only one victory,15 games if you include the Irish Cup defeat at Warrenpoint.

However the appointment this week of Glenn Taggart who has joined as player/manager after coming out of retirement may give the club a boost so Ards need to be wary. Glenn of course spent 20 years with Carrick Rangers and was a stalwart at Taylor's Avenue, taking the role of acting manager on a few occasions as well as being highly rated on the pitch.

Ards will be looking for a confidence boost ahead of next week's trip to Ballinamallard. The Red and Blues are currently sitting in fourth place on goal difference, six points in the next two games might just give hopes of pushing for a play-off spot.

The squad for Friday is unlikely to differ much from the one that drew with Ballyclare last Saturday, an ultimately disappointing result although pleasing in that the team twice came from behind to salvage the point. One player who might be pushing for inclusion is Ben Cushnie who made a scoring return to the Under 20 side last Saturday after being out for a few weeks.
