Match Day 3 Ards v Newry

Updated: Oct 13, 2019

Bluefin Sport Championship.

Bangor Fuels Arena.

Saturday 10th August at 3.00 p.m.

Ards look to continue their 100% start to the season against another of the promotion favourites Newry City. Newry have surprisingly lost both their opening games, away at the Welders and at home to Loughgall and their manager Darren Mullan will be determined to get his team back to winning games in what looks like being a very competitive league. Due to League Cup ties being played this weekend there is only one other League fixture being played on Saturday when Portadown host Ballinamallard, two more sides with promotion aspirations that Ards will face before the end of the month. The Ports currently sit two points behind Ards after a draw and a win from their opening games, while like Newry the Ducks have lost both their opening fixtures. Very early days in the campaign but these two fixtures already take on some significance.

Last season of course Ards and Newry were both in the Premiership and games between them went the way of the home side with Ards winning both encounters at Bangor and Newry collecting all the points at the Showgrounds. However last season counts for little as there have been many changes to the playing personnel in both camps. Indeed Ards hope to include another new face in the squad in the shape of 31 year old defensive midfielder Craig Harris who was a free agent after leaving the Welders and signed for the Red and Blues this week. Also added to the panel will be Jerry Thompson who has recovered from the injury he sustained during pre-season. The rest of the panel will be along the same lines as Tuesday night, although Kym Nelson is a fitness doubt after having to go off injured during the first half in that game.

Hopefully Ards fans will again turn up in numbers to cheer Warren Feeney's men to another win.
