Ards F.C vs Annagh United.
Saturday 21st October at 3.00 p.m.
Ards take on Annagh looking to change their league form which has slipped from six unbeaten to three without a win. Ironically most fans would say that their performances have improved recently but failure to capitalise when in control of games leaves them vulnerable and ultimately has cost them in terms of points gathered. The other worrying factor is the fact that only five points have been gained from the six games played at Clandeboye, seven games if you count the game away to Bangor. This is something Matthew Tipton has identified and wants to rectify.
Recent form against Annagh has been encouraging, Ards won all four games against Annagh last season, in spite of this Annagh went on to play Dungannon Swifts in the promotion/relegation play off, in which they were unsuccessful. This season Annagh started off with two wins, the first a 5-2 triumph against Dundela, who currently top the league, they then hosted Ards in their third game which ended 0-0, a result that gave the Red and Blues their first point of the season, having lost their two openers. Annagh then won their fourth game leaving them with 10 points from the first twelve and top of the division at the end of August but since then they have only had one win in their last six league games. As has been said before the one consistent thing in the Championship is inconsistency, any team, bar Knockbreda who are so far without a single point this season, appear to be capable of putting together a run of results that can dramatically change their league position.
Annagh are currently in eighth position, one place and two points ahead of Ards so a win for Tipton's men on Saturday would move them, at least temporarily, above their opponents, who do have a game in hand. Annagh's leading scorer is Ruairi McDonald with four and Ryan Swan has chipped in with a couple, they can also call on the experience of Stephen Murray so the Ards defence won't have it easy.
Ards will no doubt be without captain Michael Ruddy following his concussion last week, so Matt Gorman or Karl Hamill are likely to partner Adam Hamill, unless the manager sticks with three at the back and then all three might play. Patrick Cafolla will again be unavailable as he continues his recovery from his ankle injury. Salou Jallow has missed the last two games but Max Millar came on late against Institute and his pace and trickery caused problems for the opposition so he will be hoping for a call. Ards fans will hope that Eamon Scannell and Ethan Taggart, who both missed out against Institute are fit to return to the starting line up.
After this fixture Ards face back to back away games against Ballyclare Comrades and Dergview, three points against Annagh would be a boost going into those tough encounters.
