Match Preview: Dergview (a)

DERGVIEW vs ARDS.

LEAGUE CUP, ROUND 3.

DARRAGH PARK, CASTLEDERG.

TUESDAY 9th OCTOBER at 7.45pm

By Stuart Dellow

A break from the pressures of chasing league points and a chance to progress to a cup quarter-final for two teams currently struggling in their respective leagues.

Dergview are currently playing in the Bluefin Sport Championship where they had a good start to their season winning three of their first four league games and beating Glenavon at Mourneview Park in the last round of this competition. However since then they have endured five consecutive league defeats including a 2-1 home defeat against Ballyclare on Saturday and their only victory in their last six games has been a North West Cup match success against Intermediate League side Newbuildings United.

Ards have experienced a difficult run recently, which has seen them fail to score in five of their last seven games, perhaps unsurprising as there were seven players unavailable for last Friday's 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Institute and all of them were attackers or midfielders. Manager Colin Nixon will be hoping some of the absentees are nearing a return and is probably thankful that there were no new injuries on Friday night. Ards fans will remember a previous mid week trip to Castlederg in September 2015,where a late penalty by James Cully saw us win that second round match and progress to an eventual spot in the League Cup final, playing Cliftonville at Solitude, could that be a good omen?

Given the distance involved for a midweek match there is no organised supporters bus to this game, but hopefully Ards fans who manage to get to the game will have a win to cheer and the anticipation of a good draw in the next round.
