Match Preview: Dundela (h)

Ards vs Dundela

County Antrim Shield

Clandeboye Park, Bangor

Tues 18th September 2018

KO 7.45pm

By Stuart Dellow

Although this is a first round tie in the Toal's County Antrim Shield, as only 16 teams are involved the winners will be in the quarter finals.

Up until Saturday, Dundela had a 100% league record, but lost that to big spending Larne who won 2-0 at Wilgar Park. Ards vs Dundela ties are invariably closely contested affairs, this one probably even more so as no less than eight of the Dundela squad have played for Ards in the recent past. Among those most likely to feature are Jordan Hughes and Carl McComb who have both been on the score sheet regularly this season, while Jay Magee and their most recent recruit Nathan Hanley will be aiming to keep a clean sheet. Another with experience of playing for the Red and Blues is manager Bryan McCarroll, although that was in the Castlereagh Park days.

Ards start the game on the back of a four match unbeaten run, including draws with high-flying Linfield and Coleraine. Fans will be hoping for a strong starting eleven although manager Colin Nixon may be tempted to shuffle the pack a little with an important league game at Dungannon on the horizon. Johnny Frazer had to go off against Coleraine, so must be doubtful but others will be looking for a chance to start a game and show their worth. It may be an opportunity to give Dave Elebert a run after his recent injury, but it might be that the manager prefers to keep the defence that has kept clean sheets in the last two games. They must be playing well because the Sunday Life included four of the back five against Coleraine in their "Premiership Team of the Week" feature!

Whatever the starting eleven, I hope fans come out to watch live football and cheer the team into the quarter finals, you can watch the Champions League highlights when you get home!

Admission to this game is £8, with concessions at £5. Season tickets are not valid.
