Hopefully this will be a football match and not another episode of "Casualty", I think Ards have set some kind of record for injuries in recent weeks and it is to the credit of the players and management that they have remained competitive in spite of the list of absentees. This is probably one of the games pundits refer to as a six-pointer and although it is too early in the season for such talk, it is an important fixture that neither team will want to lose.
Although beaten last time out at Cliftonville, Ards did have the consolation of scoring the goal chosen as Premiership goal of the month through Michael McLellan's fabulous effort as well as putting in a good performance that watching fans felt deserved better than a scoreline of 3-1. A similar performance on Friday, with a bit more composure and some luck in front of goal will be on the wish list of Ards supporters. Team selection will no doubt be a last minute affair, with Colin Nixon wanting to give those nearing a return to fitness every chance to be considered for a place in the squad.
A win for Ards would take them above Institute, who currently have eight points, two more than Ards. All of Institute's points came from their first five games, while they have lost their last four league games with an aggregate score of 13-3. Having said that Ards can't afford to be complacent and will need to keep an eye on Institute captain Michael McCrudden who has already netted five times in the league this season and was chosen as Premiership Player of the Month in August.
