Match Preview: Newington (h)

ARDS vs NEWINGTON F.C.

BET MCCLEAN LEAGUE CUP. ROUND 2.

CLANDEBOYE PARK.

TUESDAY 28th AUGUST.  7.45. p.m.

BALL SPONSOR - JONNY BIRNIE.

After the excellent performance against Newry last Friday, Ards fans will be looking for more of the same against Newington on Tuesday night. Only formed in 1997, Newington should not be taken lightly, having worked their way up to the Premier Intermediate League and being current holders of the Steel and Sons Cup after beating a highly fancied Linfield Swifts side in last year's final. Their most recent game was in that competition last Friday 23rd August when they beat Ballymacash Rangers 4-1 and will now host Albert Foundry in the next round. A number of the Newington squad have experience at a higher level and Ards fans will recognise defender Kevin Bradley and striker Steven Doyle who both featured for the Red and Blues in recent seasons.

With an important league game at Linfield coming up next, Colin Nixon will have to decide whether to rest a couple of the squad that have been carrying injuries, or play the strongest eleven available and try to build on the momentum gained following the comprehensive win over Newry. Home fans will be looking for a win, both to build confidence and make progress in a knock-out competition.

Admission to this game has been set at £8, with concessions paying £5. Ards fans are reminded that season tickets are not valid for this game.
