Match Preview : Newry City [h]
Updated: Feb 22, 2019
Ards vs Newry City.
Bangor Fuels Arena.
Saturday 23rd February at 3.00 p.m.
After just two training sessions, new manager Warren Feeney has to pick a side that every Ards fan hopes will beat Newry and get off the bottom of the league table. Feeney needs to hit the ground running as there are only nine games left to avoid relegation, or more realistically eleven because it may need to involve a play off against a Championship side, current league placings make Carrick Rangers or Portadown the likely opponents in that scenario.
It will be interesting to see the starting eleven on Saturday, Callum Byers is still suspended and Darren Henderson is still a major doubt, David McAllister and Jonathan Smith missed out last week but trained this week so may be available.
Ards did beat Newry convincingly in August, with the 4-0 scoreline giving them the biggest win of the season. However Newry got revenge at the Showgrounds in November with a 2-0 win. Both clubs must see this as a vital game, a two goal win for Ards takes them off the bottom on goal difference, while a win for the visitors creates a six point gap. Newry have a game in hand, at home to title chasing favourites Linfield next Tu
