MATCH PREVIEW V ANNAGH

Updated: Nov 6

Lough 41 Championship.
Ards vs Annagh. Clandeboye Park. Saturday 6th November at 3.00 p.m. Ards go into this game still two points clear at the top of the Championship table on 29 points from their fourteen games, after Ballyclare failed to capitalise on the Red and Blues draw with Newry last Friday and so remain three points behind Ards. Loughgall left Dixon Park with all three points after a 3-0 win to put themselves on 24 points and in contention for a promotion place along with the Welders who have a host of home games to play as a result of their new ground not being available at the start of the season. While this game is being played two of the other contenders, namely the Welders who have 25 points and Newry with 27, are playing a few miles up the road so a win for Ards would put a bigger gap between them and at least one of the other current top four teams. However this is a competitive division and Ards didn't find it easy when they won the opening game of the season away to Annagh. Indeed they had to overcome a first half rainstorm and a spirited home side who twice took the lead before finally clinching the game 3-2 with a late winner from Patrick Cafolla. Since then Annagh have had mixed fortunes and currently sit in eighth place in the table with 20 points from their fourteen games. Results in this league have been hard to predict with teams struggling for consistency and Annagh will no doubt be thinking that a win for them will put them back in the mix just six points behind Ards! Annagh showed in that opening game that they are a decent side and with Stephen Murray and six goal Peter Duffin in the visiting side Ards will have to continue their good home form to come out on top. John Bailie will be hoping that the majority of his squad are available, Jaimie McGovern continues his suspension and the speedy Salou Jallow was among those that got a knock in the Newry game, although it is thought he should be fit in time, while Dee Dee McAllister will need time to regain match fitness so will probably start on the bench.
