Ards looked to continue their 100% run against The Welders who have only won once this season, after a late penalty denied them points on Tuesday night. The home side were forced to make changes as Cafolla was suspended and McGrandles unavailable, they were replaced by T.J.Murray and Daniel Reynolds.

Ards grabbed control straight from the kick off with the Welders struggling to make any impact in their opponents half and in the 13th minute the home side opened the scoring when an accurate one two between Eamon McAllister and Kym Nelson gave Ards a good opportunity with Nelson keeping composed under the pressure of the Welders defence and finding the bottom left hand corner to put Ards one up.

Minutes later it could have been 1-1 with the ball striking Neeson's far post after a cross to the back post found the away sides Dornan. Then, McAllister pressured a mistake from Welders keeper Ben McCauley but his resulting chip shot was saved as the keeper redeemed himself.

At the half hour mark a fine strike from 35 yards by goalscorer Nelson could have doubled Ards lead in style but it went narrowly wide.

The half ended 1-0, with the home side coping well with the disruption caused by injuries to Crane and Arthurs who were replaced by Dinu and McMillen.

Early in the second half Craig McMillen created a good opportunity with a well timed pass but Eamon Scannell’s knock on was wide of the right post.

Then, Kyle Calderwood, another substitute this time for Conall Young, put in a ball that found the busy Scannell but his header was wide.

The Welders continued to try to equalise but the Ards defence were quick to clear the danger every time. The visitor's best chance came in the sixty third minute when Alan McMurty’s looping pass into the box looked dangerous but it couldn’t be converted by familiar face Michael McLellan.

Soon after McMurty received his second yellow card leaving the away side with 10 on the pitch.

In the last five minutes some confusion in the Ards box gave the Welders a chance to get a late equaliser. However, substitute Brandon Nelson’s strike from close range was high and wide.

The game ended 1-0 with Ards dominating following a very convincing performance which continues their unbeaten streak, long may it continue!
