Match Preview : Newry City A.F.C. [a]

Newry City vs Ards.

D.B.P.

Newry Showgrounds.

Friday 5th April at 7.45 p.m.

This could be a season decider for two clubs locked at the bottom of the league. Currently Ards have a two point advantage over Newry but a defeat for Warren Feeney's men puts them rock bottom with only four games left. On a brighter note a win gives them a five point lead, what are the odds on a draw?

Ards are currently in better form with five points from their last four league games, including a win against Newry, while the home side have lost their last six league games and in fact have only one league win to their name since beating Ards 2-0 at the Showgrounds in mid November. Goal scoring has been a problem for both sides with Ards only notching 27 times in 33 league games, seven of those coming in the two home wins over Newry, while Newry's total is slightly worse at 23 goals in the same number of games.

Ards manager will have an almost full squad to choose from as he tries to secure the play-off spot, Kym Nelson and Sean Noble are the obvious absentees through suspension and injury respectively, but Damian McNulty comes back from suspension and Michael Kerr is available having had to sit out the draw against his parent club Crusaders.

Newry are hoping for a big home crowd and have advised Ards that fans will be segregated, so visiting fans should use the away end which can be accessed from the turnstiles in the car park. Hopefully there will be a good travelling support to back the team in their bid to avoid the drop.

The PASC are running a bus to the game, leaving Gibson's Lane/ Social Club at 6.00 p.m.
