Preview: Newry (h)

FRIDAY AUGUST 24th @ 7.45pm

Ards face Premiership newcomers Newry City on Friday night looking for their first win of the season. Newry earned their Premiership place courtesy of a 6-3 aggregate win over Carrick Rangers in the play-offs and their rise from the ashes of the previous regime is well documented with four promotions in five seasons.

Manager Darren Mullen will be delighted that they have already got their first points on the board, courtesy of a 2-1 win over Dungannon Swifts, although they did lose their other two games, away to fellow newcomers Institute and at home last weekend to Glenavon, both defeats were by a single goal and many of their squad have Premiership experience so Ards can take nothing for granted.

It is hoped that some of the injured players will be available for selection. Kym Nelson was fit enough for the bench last week, although he was not used, so the extra week will surely have helped him, Michael McLellan came off the bench against Ballymena so should be available and Dave Elebert also hopes to be fit so the main absentee will be the unlucky Sean Noble, who will be out for several months.

It is hoped that a good crowd turns up to support the team in what will be their first Friday night game of the season and hopefully their first win.
