Syd was an outside-left that Ards signed from Glenavon in the early 60s, he made his debut in a 2-1 home win over Bangor on 18 August, 1962.  He played 44 games that season scoring 20 goals.

The following season he played 36 times and scored 13 giving him a grand total of 80 appearances and 33 goals.  He left to join Bangor for the 1961/65 season.
