ARDS VIEW THROUGH THE YEARS

Ards Football Club started producing a matchday programme back in the 1947/48 season, this was the season that the Irish League reformed after WWII.  The Regional League operated from 1940/41 – 1946/47 (Ards were excluded from this league and played Intermediate football).  It is unlikely that the club produced a programme prior to 1947.

Ards are only one of four Northern Ireland clubs to have regularly produced programmes ever since then.  Cliftonville, Glentoran and Linfield being the others.

The programme title ‘Ardsview’ was first introduced for the 1975/76 campaign and this name has been used through to the present day.  It is the third oldest programme title after Glentoran (Glentoran Gazette) and Linfield (Look at Linfield).

Current editor Adrian Monaghan took over his duties in 1997 and is the longest serving programme editor in the Irish League after Billy Kennedy retired from his role as Linfield’s editor a few seasons back.
